l'his thesis is based on a study of thirty-four juvenile offenders who were receiving parole and aftercare service from the Parole and Afterc0re Officers of the Halifax District Office of the Department of Public Welfare on March 31, 1960. It is a part of a group study carried out by the second year students of the Maritime School of Social Work. In the research project, primary data were derived from the case records of the children at the Halifax District Office of the Department of Public Welfare, and at the Nova Scotia School for Boys. Secondary data were derived from bibliographical material and from interviews with authorities in the community. The findings of this thesis indicate the importance of the role of the Parole and Aftercare Officer in the total treatment programme directed toward the re-education and rehabilitation of the juvenile offender .
