Alcohol, as a widely studied social drug, has been known to have various effects on the body following consumption. Post consumption, alcohol can enter the blood stream and reach many different areas of the body, including the brain, resulting in altered function both internally and in outward behaviours. Alcohol’s effects are not only dose dependant but are also said to vary depending on certain consumer characteristics. Certain elicited behaviour changes caused by alcohol can alter a person’s motor control or functioning, resulting in a change in performance level for some tasks. This study was designed in order to test the effects of low to moderate alcohol consumption on a fine motor skill involving accuracy in a simplified billiards game, with which alcohol consumption is often associated. Results for the study indicated that a slight performance enhancement effect is shown post consumption of low doses of alcohol.
