Abstract

Individuals with high and low scores on a measure of psychopathy were compared on their ratings and recognition of affective word and face stimuli presented to the right and left visual fields. Potential participants were initially screened using Levenson’s Primary and Secondary Psychopathy scales. Ten individuals with high scores and 11 individuals with low scores then completed the trait portion of the State Trait Anxiety Inventory ( STAI) and the Psychopathic Personality Inventory- Revised ( PPI- R), as well as the affective face and word rating and recall tasks. As hypothesized, some evidence for the Interhemispheric Transfer hypothesis was found, as well as support for normal cerebral laterality. Findings failed to support the Left- Hemisphere Activation hypothesis. Limitations and possibilities for future studies are discussed.
