This collection of poems draws on my personal experiences as a farmhand to provide a fresh voice to the agrarian and pastoral tradition, as influenced by the works of poets like Wendell Berry, Gary Snyder, Henry David Thoreau, Harry Thurston, and William Wordsworth. It melds ideas about humans’ relationship with the earth into a unique poetic interpretation that echoes heightened cultural awareness about environmentalism and local, small- scale farming. I have made use of a variety of styles, including the iconograph, the list poem, and the haiku, as well as others. In addition to experimenting with styles, I have taken a dual media approach to creative writing by incorporating a series of ten photographs, which complement the poems by providing a visual representation of farming and my experiences working with the earth.
