The objective of this essay is to show that change, rather than substance, is the most fundamental ontological category. In what follows I will show the problems with substance ontology, and provide the reader with an introduction to an attractive alternative, process ontology. Considerable attention will be given to the process philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, and the relationship between process ontology and modern physics.
