This thesis forms part of a group research project on wards undertaken by the second year students of the Maritime School of Social Work. It is based on the study of 100 wards of the Children's Aid Society of Colchester County in care as of December 31, 1962. A schedule was used by the group to collect the primary data from case records of the Children's Aid Society of Colchester County. Secondary data was collected from bibliographical and census material and informal interviews with the agency workers. It was found that 78 of the 100 d this study were either attending school, or had attended at some time during wardship. A further analysis of the data showed that the wards were behind the average school grade for their age as compared to the general population. It was also found that those wards having maintained contact with their natural parents, and those who had three or more foster home moves, frequently made a poor scholastic adjustment. It was also found that the attitudes of foster parents towards education influenced the wards scholastic performance. A suggestion was made that all child caring agencies consider using the form drafted by the author when assessing the ward's scholastic adjustment.
