Abstract

This descriptive study is concerned with the function of the social worker 1n the psyohiatric team at the Nova Scotia Hospital in three specific areas: admission to the hospital, treatment in the hospital, discharge from the hospital. Teamwork is considered as an inherent principle in casework practice. Case material is used to illustrate the social worker's function in each specific area and is considered from the frame of reference of the team. Material has been drawn from twenty-seven cases at the Nova Scotia Hospital between October 1, 1953, and March 31, 1954. The study points out the social worker's function in relation to the psychiatric team.
