This paper investigates the effects of organizational dynamics on the quality of life of residents in nursing homes. Data were collected by surveys, semi-structured interviews, and participant observation in The Valley Nursing Home. Secondary sources of information such as government statutes and organizational documents were also used. It was found that despite the negative effects of the regimentation imposed on the residents' life, they reported a satisfactory quality of life in the Home. Three explanations of the apparent contradiction between the two major findings were presented. It is considered that the negative effects of the medical model adopted by the Home were ameliorated by their activities and visitation programs is the most probable. Finally, some recommendations for improving the quality of life in institutions were made.
