The purpose of this thesis is to explore, describe and analyze critically spirituality as personal transformation in the counselling process through the conceptual framework of Psychosynthesis and the therapeutic process of Focusing. Both are informed by my narrative inquiry and a review of the relevant literature. I have used a qualitative approach that employs narrative inquiry. When I began this thesis journey, I had made some assumptions centered around three central transformational questions that I assumed others were striving to discover about themselves. Through the literature reviewed and my experiences as a counselling intern, I discovered that others were indeed striving for answers to these fundamental questions. There are two things I have discovered in this thesis journey around psychosynthesis and focusing--one is the integration of the two models--not before done and secondly, I have simplified the approach and implementation of the application of these models as it relates to personal transformation in the counselling process. Finally, I have rediscovered my vocation in this thesis journey and the tremendous need that exists to do this important personal transformational work as a counsellor. The challenge now is to find ways to meet this need.
