The effects of digital media exposure on the development of response inhibition were examined in typically developing children. Participants ranged in age from two to eight years old. The extent of digital media exposure was scored based on a Digital Media Use Survey filled out by a parent or guardian. A modified Go/No-Go task was used to measure response inhibition. An age appropriate Child Behaviour Checklist was also completed by the parent or guardian to examine behavioural patterns. There was not a significant amount of improvement found in attention or response inhibition across the age range; this was hypothesized to be the result of the Go/No-Go task being designed for younger participants, and a skewed age range. The primary findings suggest that videogames are potentially related to a variety of behaviour issues, including but not limited to: internalizing and externalizing problems, as well as attention and ADHD problems.
