The Book of Ruth is a verse biography about New Brunswicker Ruth Carruthers, and it spans from her birth in 1926 to 2018. The collection holds 36 poems, and is divided into eight sections, the first being a poetical foreword that frames the work’s perspective and intention. It explains that the poems to follow are inspired by stories that Ruth told the author as a child, which are then reimagined in verse, and accompanied with family photos. This collection serves to both demonstrate the cyclical nature of life in the same breath that it attempts to capture it, and ultimately illustrates how it is through storytelling that we find each other and ourselves.
