A purposive sampling technique was used to identify over forty such programs in Canada that currently offer a range of programs in outdoor adventure education. This study used both qualitative and quantitative techniques to obtain data that allowed for an in- depth scan of the scope of risk mangement practices. The data collected from the web- based surveys and the in- depth interviews, which included input from program administrators, instructors, students and graduates, was analyzed to identify best practices in post- secondary outdoor adventure education risk management. This study recommends 27 best practices derived from the study. They cover a number of areas such as program development, staff development, risk management planning, communication and fostering risk management in students.
