This thesis project develops principles for a theological education curriculum to effectively prepare pastors for churches in the rural Maine context. Principles were generated from research in four domains: biblical principles for education; contemporary educational theory, especially in adult learning; current research in neuroscience and its implications for learning theory: and qualitative research through interviews exploring the distinctive cultural context of rural Maine. Principles were derived from a synthesis of major themes from these four areas of study and demonstrated in their practical application to a course syllabus for contextual pastoral training.
