This work aims to reconcile a theoretical conception lying on an understanding of ecofeminism put forth by Shiva and Mies, with a practical case study on the Mount Polley Mine in the hopes of providing a better understanding of environmental issues. A central argument dominant in much ecofeminist thought is that capitalist ideology, rooted in development and science is problematic when looking at the relationship between women and the environment or the non human world. Although there are important connections here, ecofeminism also presents constraining ideology. Through the critical review of pivotal ecofeminist thinkers Mies and Shiva, a framework that represents society more holistically is put forth to view environmental issues in a Canadian context. A media analysis is used to portray events that took place at the Mount Polley Mine in northern BC with the intent of providing a better-rounded representation. Conclusions based on this reconciliation are then drawn specific to Mount Polley.
