The desire for clean energy resources has increased dramatically in recent years. Due to its proximity to the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia has a unique opportunity to harness the highest tidal range in the world and its associated power. Theories on how to produce the greatest amount of power, and what impact these methods will have on the surrounding environment, vary. This thesis analyzes the impact turbine tuning has on power generation and reduc- tions to the intertidal zone. Turbine tuning can be measured in terms of the ratio of upstream and downstream water velocities before and after reaching an array of tidal turbines. This ratio signi cantly impacts the quantity of power that can be taken from the water and the volume ux of water travelling through the channel. There are various theories suggesting how this ratio should be determined. These theories are compared using a mathematical model for power generation and the e ects on the environment.
