Abstract

The current study examined convergent and predictive validity of the Self-Control and Self-Management Scale (SCMS) and its subscales using global personality measures and four behavioural goal-related ratings. Mezo and Short (2012) established convergent validity of the SCMS through correlations with mindfulness, positive affect, negative affect, life satisfaction, depression, stress, and anxiety. However, research has not investigated how behavioural self-regulation and experiential self-regulation may overlap and differ. Correlations were used to examine convergent validity.!The current study also included an exploratory component, which correlated the SCMS with goal-related rating scales and measures related to experiential self-regulation. There were 127 participants from a convenient sample. Scales and goal-related ratings were used to collect data at two different times. Evidence was found for convergent and predictive validity; however, it did not follow the expected pattern of relationships whereby the type of SCMS subscale would correlate or predict similar goal-related ratings.
