This research paper discusses the process of defining five proposed goals for the Hazelbrook United Baptist Church, using a study of the theology of the church, and church growth. These five proposed goals are; (1) develop and implement a Mission Statement, (2) develop and implement a discipleship training program for new believers, (3) implement a corporate prayer ministry, (4) define and analyze our target area, and (5) review our worship service, to determine if we should change our church's style of worship from one that is traditional, to one that contains a combination of traditional and contemporary elements. Before attempting to define these five proposed goals for the Hazelbrook United Baptist Church, this research project will first address the questions; "What is the Church?", and "What is Church growth?" Whereas much guidance for this endeavour comes directly from the Scriptures, God also uses the shared experiences and insights of pastors who have witnessed significant growth in their congregations to provide direction to those who may be struggling to bring meaningful growth to their own church. This thesis uses a study of the theology of the church, and insights offered by those who are involved in the field of church growth through interviews with pastors of large growing Atlantic churches, and a telephone survey of other pastors who are presently leading congregations in the Convention of the Atlantic Baptist Churches. It reaches a conclusion whether or not all, or some, of these five proposed goals should be presented to the congregation of the Hazelbrook United Baptist Church for acceptance and possible implementation.
