Wavelength is a novella in four parts that examines the relationship between two estranged sisters, Stella and Daisy; they have reunited after several years to take a trip together to Pulau Masalah, a fictional island in Malaysia. Water provides both the structure and the primary metaphor for the work. The action in the story follows the rise and fall of a wave, and the volatile nature of water is at the heart of every scene. Through the eyes of Stella, we observe her transformation, beginning as the overly controlling, tightly‐wound elder sister to her eventual acceptance of what she cannot change.
